Geralt takes a stand.

Henry Cavill is many things. Star of Netflix's The Witcher, Superman, and occasional guest in dreams where he carries me upstairs to bed in his big strong arms. Not in a sexy way. It's just nice to be held by him, okay? I've overshared. Bleak insight into my own subconscious aside, did you also know that Cavill is a keen gamer?

I mean, you probably did. It's been well-documented at this point. Even before being cast as the gruff monster hunter Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher, Cavill was a huge fan of the CD Projekt RED games. He even used his casting as Geralt as an opportunity to play back through The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, in order to "prepare" for the role.

Now there's an excuse I'd love to use to explain the 300 hours I've put into the open world RPG. Alas, I am not Henry Cavill.

While promoting Netflix's The Witcher over the past few days, Cavill has been able to dive a little deeper into his love of gaming and when it all started. In a recent interview with GQ, Cavill revealed that he much prefers staying in to play video games rather than going out.

He also revealed that he grew up playing the likes of Half-Life,Delta Force, and Total War: Warhammer 2, and would host LAN parties at his childhood home.

It probably won't come as a huge surprise to you, given the games he was raised on, that Cavill favours the PC as his gaming platform of choice. Speaking to NME recently, Cavill was asked whether he prefers Xbox or PlayStation. His response, without missing a beat, was PC. He explained that his dad got him into PC gaming when he was young, and the love blossomed from there.

"I've not quite ventured into building my own myself," Cavill explained. "I definitely have had custom PCs over the years. That'll be the next project, as soon as I find enough time - and the bravery - I might put my own PC together."

You can watch the full NME interview with Cavill below. The console chat starts around 2:32, if you'd rather skip ahead.

Cavill's many years as a dedicated gamer clearly served him well for the role of Geralt. While critics have been divided on the tone and quality of the Netflix fantasy show, Cavill's performance as the monster hunter for hire seems to have bagged him universal praise.

No doubt the actor will be as happy as the rest of us to learn that CD Projekt RED has worked out a new deal with the creator of The Witcher, implying that a new game in the RPG series is on the way.
