According to Nintendo insider Zippo, a new Star Fox game is in development, along with a supporting animated series. If true, this will be the first major Star Fox release since 2015's tepidly received Star Fox Zero. Although nothing official has been announced, Zippo has been a reliable source in the past with news about the Persona series.

According to the source - published by ComicBook.com - the game is being made by an outside studio, under the supervision of Nintendo. See what Zippo said below.

On the subject of Persona, check out the Persona 5 Strikers Trailer, released last year for the Switch.

Zippo says: "A new Star Fox game has been in development for quite a while, it's being made at an outside studio, with the close, close supervision of Nintendo. The thing is, I haven't yet been able to track down who is developing it,"

So although they don't know who the outside studio is, Zippo seems confident that the game is not only in development, but has been for a while.

They added: "One last thing. Star Fox is another franchise that will play a part in Nintendo's overall multimedia strategy going forward," says Zippo. "An animated project of some sort is early in the works at Nintendo's newly acquired studio, Nintendo Pictures, along with a few other properties."

It's impossible to confirm or deny this at the moment, but, as Zippo's earlier reports turned out to be true, it's looking good for fans of Star Fox. The canid mascot hasn't been seen much lately, apart from on Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which remains as popular as ever. This is a shame when we consider how groundbreaking the early releases were in evolving the 3D shooter genre. We only hope that Fox McCloud gets the game he deserves, and the animated series gives him the popularity renaissance Sonic is currently enjoying.
