New Mafia Game Confirmed In The Works, And There's More Good News

2K Games have officially confirmed a new entry in the Mafia series, plus fans can get their hands on a freebie.

It’s finally official. Back in May, it was revealed that a fourth Mafia game was reportedly in development. Rumours suggested that the game was set to be a prequel based in Italy, potentially exploring the origins of Mafia’s Salieri crime family. Bloomberg further claimed that Mafia 5 was being developed alongside Mafia 4, with Hangar 13 planning a big comeback for the franchise. We can’t confirm the existence of Mafia 5, but a fourth instalment has now been announced by 2K Games.

The game is reportedly being made in Unreal Engine 5. Take a look at this incredible UE5 The Matrix demo.

To celebrate the original Mafia’s twentieth anniversary, 2K Games took to Twitter to announce that “work has started an all-new Mafia project.” The project is “a few years away,” according to general manager Roman Hladík. He said, “We can't share anything more right now, we're really excited to keep working on this beloved franchise and to entertain our players with new stories.”

Notably, 2K Games are keeping pretty hush-hush on whether the game is in fact a prequel but hey, never look a gift horse in the mouth. Especially as that’s not the only good news 2K dropped.

The studio also revealed that in celebration of the twentieth anniversary, the original Mafia will be completely free to download on Steam between 1 and 5 September so if you’re yet to check out this game, there really is no better time. The offer starts and ends at 6PM BST / 10AM PT / 1PM ET. You can discover the menace that is the ‘Fair Play’ race mission for yourself.
