Xbox Game Pass Adds Legendary RPG Series This Month

There's never been a better time to pick up the iconic trilogy - be sure to play it while you can.

Aw yeah, it’s Game Pass time. Just in case your backlog wasn’t already feeling nice and chunky after Christmas, as well as the various Winter and New Year sales, it’s time for it to get even chunkier.

Mass Effect Legendary Edition, the complete remastered trilogy of the series, is set to land on the service on 6 January, so if you’ve not played them before (or were fancying a revisit) there’s never been a better time for it. Legendary Edition includes over 40 bits of DLC content from across the series, including promo weapons and armour, all optimised for glorious 4K Ultra HD. Tasty.

Just in case you needed any more convincing, check out this footage of how the original Mass Effect looks compared to Legendary Edition below...

Although Mass Effect is pretty undeniably the star of this month’s Game Pass, it’s not the only highlight - Outer Wilds is also going to be available, if you were fancying some space exploration goodness, the cute co-op multiplayer Embr, as well as the oh-so-addictive roguelike Spelunky 2, which arrives slightly later on 13 January.

Available today there’s Gorogoa, The Pedestrian, and Olija, and later this month there’s also a game preview for The Anacrusis, an upcoming co-op FPS set aboard a starship stranded at the edge of space.

It’s also worth noting that leaving the service on 13 January is Kingdom Hearts 3, Desperados 3, Ghost of a Tale, Mount & Blade: Warband, Yiik: A Postmodern RPG, and Pandemic. The game that’s called Pandemic, that is - sadly I don’t think the real one is set to promptly vanish by next Thursday.

Meanwhile, for PlayStation users, January’s free PlayStation Plus games are available to download now, including the action-RPG Persona 5 Strikers, and racing game Dirt 5 - check out more here.

I don’t know how anyone manages to keep up with all these free games, anyway. Does anyone, actually? Are we just sat in some kind of pretense that we actually make the most of these services and don’t sit replaying the same nostalgic games from our childhood instead? Just me? Anyway, go play Mass Effect, or something.
