The Mass Effect series from BioWare is one of the best sci-fi RPG series of all time, offering a diverse level of storytelling, immersive worlds and interesting NPCs that few other games can match.

The first game in the Mass Effect series was released by publisher Electronic Arts for the Xbox 360 in 2007 before making its way to other platforms. From that moment forth, the series became a connection that will last generations for its developer, BioWare.

In the following years, BioWare would bring us three more sequels, the last being 2017’s Mass Effect Andromeda, which initially begins during the original Mass Effect trilogy but its story kicks off properly centuries after the third numbered entry. Now fans eagerly await the arrival of Mass Effect 5 (its unofficial title), which could be a next-gen release at this point.

Until then, there’s plenty of fun to be had with the original trilogy, especially regarding the 2021 release, Mass Effect Legendary Edition, which features improved visuals, performance and all previously released DLC. With so much replay value in each of those three games, they can provide years of intergalactic adventures.

However, if you play Mass Effect Legendary Edition on PC, you can take your enjoyment of this franchise to the next level thanks to the fantastic modding community. One such mod is from creator Aphar called ‘MassFPS’, and as its title suggests, it allows you to play the first game in a first-person perspective.

Hopefully, this mod will also be compatible with Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3 soon, because it really does make the original title feel like a whole new game. Best of all, it’s free to download now via Nexusmods.

The modder has also added a new perspective to accommodate cover shooting which includes a new lean feature. What’s more, character movement has also been increased to make it feel like a more traditional FPS.

Sadly, as with the nature of most mods, ‘MassFPS’ is only available for the PC version of the game. As for the rest of us, we can still enjoy playing the original trilogy with Mass Effect Legendary Edition on PlayStation and Xbox.
