What we know about Mass Effect 5 can fit on the back of a postage stamp but with the franchise being loved by so many, we will take whatever we can get.

Initially teased back in 2020 before being formally announced at The Game Awards, Mass Effect 5 is reportedly in development over at BioWare but details remain scarce.

It has been eight years since the last entry, Mass Effect: Andromeda, was released and with the fourth Mass Effect instalment being met with mixed reviews, BioWare has a lot to live up to if it wishes to meet the standards of the original trilogy.

Although we have still received no official update for Mass Effect 5, a recent announcement has repealed that Mass Effect is officially back.

Just not in the way you would have initially hoped.

This week will welcome the release of Update 8.9.0 for Battlefield 2042 and alongside various weapon changes and bug fixes, fans can also expect a brand-new collaboration with none other than Mass Effect itself.

“But now the fight has gone galaxy-wide, with a host of exclusive Mass Effect content arriving via your nearest relay,” the official press release reads.

“From June 17 to July 1, 2025, a selection of bundles will be available for purchase, and also progression rewards, unlocking some of the finest gear from the farthest reaches of space.”

The Mass Effect bundles will include the following: Galactic Bundle - 1750 BFC, Scoped & Dropped Bundle - 2000 BFC, and the Citadel Bundle - 3000 BFC with each offering unique cosmetics, gear, and weapons.

Not only that but participating in the Mass Effect event will see you earn three cosmetics including a legendary weapon skin inspired by Mass Effect’s AR, M8 Avenger.

“Battlefield 2042 players can also participate in Conquest Ascension. Rise above the rest and train for a new century of warfare. Use Ascension tactics with added crawl and squad spectating mechanics to assure the future for humanity that any commander would be proud of,” the press release continues.

As mentioned, the event goes live on 17 June and runs until 1 July so if you want to experience BioWare’s RPG in the Battlefield universe, then this is the perfect opportunity to do so.
