Marvel has announced a brand-new line-up for the Guardians of the Galaxy as the Ultimate line of comics enters its second year and goes from strength to strength.

This new line-up is drastically different to what some are used to with no Drax, Gamora, Rocket, or Groot.

Marvel will be back on the big screen next year with Thunderbolts*

Star Lord will still be a part of the crew, however he is joined by little known character, Ultimate Nullifier who has only appeared a few times throughout Marvel comics history.

Also stepping up to the team is Captain Marvel and Cosmo, who fans will be very familiar with.

However, perhaps the most left-field and exciting choice comes with America Chavez.

This new iteration of the Guardians of the Galaxy will hail from the future with Star Lord looking much older and very grizzled.

It’s a unique line-up with a variety of powers across the board. I’m intrigued to see how Ultimate Nullifier plays out given his powers can, as the name suggests, nullify the superpowers of others.

Writer Deniz Camp has commented on the storyline saying readers can expect, “the life and death of universes.”

Ultimately, the team is on the hunt for its original team members by using Captain Marvel, America Chavez, and perhaps Ultimate Nullifier, they will find their lost friends.

Who that team is, we can only guess. Perhaps these will be ultimate versions of the more familiar team.

Everyone is obviously staying tight-lipped but it sounds like the new comic is going to be a very good time exploring a new version of the cosmic side to Marvel.

Camp continues his teases of the new comic saying he’s enjoying “new sides of the Ultimate Universe through Ultimate America Chavez, who has quickly become a favorite of mine.”

So, perhaps Chavez will be sticking around in the team for a while. The comic, The Ultimates #8, goes on sale soon.
