Henry Cavill Red Dead Redemption casting leaves fans super divided

Does The Witcher actor have what it takes?

Although a Red Dead Redemption live-action movie has never been confirmed, it has not stopped fans of the game from speculating as to which famous faces they would like to see take on some of the iconic roles.

We are in an era of video game adaptations with shows such as The Last of Us, Arcane, and Fallout not only adapting some of our favourite titles but also doing it better than ever before.

Check out the trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2 below!

With screenwriters finally understanding what it takes to faithfully adapt some of the best video games, it is no wonder that people are calling out for other titles to receive the same treatment.

That is why Red Dead Redemption 2 will frequently come up in these discussions.

Although the Rockstar title has no plans on heading to the big screen, fans have still been speculating as to which actor could take on the iconic role of Arthur Morgan.

Now it seems as though the latest name is Henry Cavill.

Best known for playing Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher adaptation as well as Superman in the DC Extended Universe, this would not be Cavill’s first rodeo (pardon the pun).

“Saw this image of Henry Cavill and thought he looked like Arthur Morgan here,” read one post over on r/reddeadredemption.

“Good live action casting maybe, if ever, what do you think?”

However, judging by the comments that follow, this is not a casting that everyone supports.

“RDR fans when a white man wears suspenders and a button shirt,” user Apophis_36 joked.

Another post on the same subreddit also asked for people’s opinions on Cavill taking on the role but once again, it went down like a lead balloon.

“Nooooo he looks nothing like him and The Witcher was a terrible show,” the top comment read.

“He was the only good-ish character but he was boring as f**k. We need someone that looks like Arthur and actually has the ability to be funny because Arthur can be pretty sarcastic and funny. Keep Henry out of this in my opinion!”

I don’t know about you but I don’t think they are fans and that seems to be the general consensus when it comes to Henry Cavill.

Hopefully the casting director will nail the iconic role if a Red Dead Redemption movie ever came to fruition.
