Guitar Hero is a series that began in 2005 that let gamers pretend that they were famous rockstars - and it was so much fun.

To be fair, while Guitar Hero never actually required anywhere near the same level of skill that’s needed to play a real guitar, the series could pose quite the challenge with speedy hand-eye coordination needed, especially on the more challenging difficulty settings.

Recently, fans have been calling for the revival of Guitar Hero as well as its alternative rival Rock Band. There has been no official word from publisher Activision that it intends to bring back the accessory-based rhythm game, that was until now, if recent reports are to be believed.

Windows Central reports that current Activision CEO Bobby Kotick hosted an internal meeting with employees to discuss the future of the company. During this meeting, Kotick apparently hired James Corden to host the discussions with employees (for some reason). What’s more, the name Guitar Hero was said to have been mentioned during the meeting, which is quite interesting, to say the least.

When discussing the next decade of gaming, Kotick said: “The re-emergence of Guitar Hero and other things would not be possible without the different types of resources. And so, you know, just the endless possibilities for the future that are just incredibly exciting.”

Obviously, this is by no means official confirmation that Guitar Hero is making a triumphant return, but the fact that the Activision CEO dropped its name during a recent meeting at the very least gives fans of the series some hope that it will return one day. Whether Guitar Hero makes a comeback during this generation or next, remains to be seen.

The last game in the series to arrive on consoles was Guitar Hero Live in 2015 and if you’re lucky, you might even find a coin-gobbling Guitar Hero machine in seaside arcades.
