Grand Theft Auto fans were expecting a new game announcement yesterday as one was teased by a former GTA dev. What they got instead was different, but kind of inspired?

We’re sure all GTA fans are familiar with the infamous Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition collection.

It was a set of remasters for Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

They weren’t received well but developer Grove Street Games has a chance to redeem itself with this exciting new title.

GTA 6 But Godzilla Is A Playable Character

BeastLink is a new multiplayer title that sees colossal kaijiu clash in a big city. Some players will get to become a kaiju and have a showdown the old-school monster movies would be jealous of, whereas others will be stuck as a simple human just trying to survive.

While we’d love to say Godzilla, King Kong and other famous monsters are actually playable characters, Grove Street Games clearly couldn’t get the rights to them. Instead BeastLink features a bespoke selection of original monsters, though they of course pay homage to some of the biggest names in the kaiju genre.

If you’re stuck as a human your job will be to do all you can to survive the battle happening around you, which is easier said than done considering entire buildings will be toppling over before your very eyes.

The entire map is destructible meaning pretty much nowhere is safe. You’ll have to keep mobile in one of the game’s vehicles to stay ahead of the conflict as you work to limit the destruction.

Anyone who grew up with a PlayStation 2 or OG Xbox will get a kick out of this one as it’s almost exactly the cult-classic fighting game War of the Monsters.

BeastLink will be exclusive to PC when it launches though at the time of writing no date has been set.

When it does launch though it’ll launch through Steam in Early Access, so anyone interested in giving it a go for themselves will be able to do so then.

Before the announcement many suspected Grove Street Games was going to reveal yet another collection of Grand Theft Auto remasters.

Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories were amongst the most popular guesses, so BeastLink came as a pleasant surprise.

Many have already expressed interest in the title, and are pleased to see Grove Street Games working on another original IP rather than something we’ve seen already.

Judging from the gameplay alone BeastLink looks a little rough around the edges but the premise is inspired.

It looks like a brilliant game to play with friends, after all gamers do love their friendslop nowadays.
