GTA 6 Feature Will Make the Game Realer Than Ever

The Theft part of the title might be a bit trickier

The release of GTA VI has been in people's minds for so long now that it feels like we may all have gone a little bit over the top in our rampant fervour for its eventual arrival on consoles, which should still be in May 2026, all being well.

With very little information from Rockstar themselves, fans have taken to analysing the existing trailers for anything they can glean about the gameplay, as well as diving into historic leaks that could help us understand what we're going to get next year.

Everything from the overall story to individual gameplay mechanics is up for grabs, and it's actually pretty remarkable what the community has been able to come up with in the intervening.

It seems the wealth of changes that the game will inevitably bring to the formula we saw in GTA V extends out to the "Theft" part of the game's title, as thing's could be markedly different if leaked information is to be believed.

You Wouldn't Steal A Car

Over on Twitter/X, user Gamers Guide shared a brief post covering the potential systems in the game when it comes to stealing cars, along with some images potentially backing up their point.

"GTA 6 2022 leaks hinted at a more advanced car theft system, older vehicles could be unlocked using a Slim Jim, while high-end models required an immobiliser bypass."

If true, it would inevitably be a major gameplay change for the series that would require us to accrue additional items to break into a higher quality, more expensive car.

It's obviously unclear about whether they have any tangible mechanical gameplay differences that they want players to use, like a system similar to lock-picking in the Elder Scrolls series, but at the very least it's a big step in the realism direction for a game that looks like it will have it in spades.

It wouldn't technically be the first time that a GTA game featured something of that ilk. The oft-forgotten PlayStation Portable release Chinatown Wars, had a system where you needed to wield a screwdriver using your joysticks rotation to successfully hotwire a car.

Whatever system they do eventually decide to go with, it will only be one tiny piece of an enormous tapestry that thousands of people at Rockstar Games have been working on for years. Let's hope that when it does arrive, it manages to live up to the monumental expectations.
