Now that we (finally) have enough GTA VI content to last us until the game releases next year, talk has turned to another mystery surrounding the highly-anticipated launch.

Its price.

With games costing more and more each year, it is no wonder that fans are concerned about the potential price of Grand Theft Auto VI, especially considering it is set to be one of the biggest game releases of all time.

With companies such as Microsoft and Nintendo raising the price of its games just this year, by the time that May 2026 rolls around, we could be looking at some eye-watering costs.

However, fans are now feeling even more worried following recent comments by Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford.

As the boss of the upcoming Borderlands 4, Pitchford was recently approached by a fan on Twitter with pleas to not “take the risk” by making the game $80 as “a lot of gamers aren’t gonna pay [it].”

However, Pitchford snapped back by saying: “A) Not my call. B) If you’re a real fan, you’ll find a way to make it happen.

My local game store had Starflight for Sega Genesis for $80 in 1991 when I was just out of high school working minimum wage at an ice cream parlor in Pismo Beach and I found a way to make it happen.”

As you can imagine, this comment did not go down well with fans but on top of that, it also spelled bad news for GTA VI.

That is because Gearbox just so happens to be owned by Take-Two who, incidentally, also owns Rockstar and with Pitchford claiming that pricing is “not my call”, we can assume that higher-ups (such as Take-Two) are in charge of that steep price tag.

As a result, we can unfortunately assume that the same will apply for GTA VI.

Of course, it will be some time before we learn the price of the next Grand Theft Auto title but let us hope that Take-Two doesn’t make the same mistake twice.
