Rockstar Games' former lead Leslie Benzies appeared on Sony's State of Play event last night to show off his brand new game, MindsEye, and it looks like a very optimistic mash-up between Grand Theft Auto VI and Cyberpunk 2077.

MindsEye is a “story-driven” action-adventure game from newcomers Build A Rocket Boy, an ambitious studio founded by former Rockstar North president Leslie Benzies and two ex-Rockstar employees Matthew Smith and Colin Entwistle.

Build A Rocket Boy has been quietly hyping this one for quite some time now, but we finally got our first proper look at it last night.

The latest “Reveal Story Trailer” was shown off for MindsEye at yesterday’s State of Play, and it’s pretty clear from watching it that the ex-Rockstar devs aren’t straying too far out of their comfort zones for this one.

And, based on the comments in a thread over on the r/Games subreddit discussing the trailer, it seems I wasn’t the only one that noticed.

“Developed and directed by Leslie Benzies (Rockstar OG) and his new company, published by IO Interactive, sign me tf up,” committed user Ftsmv.

“Has the vibe of a Cyberpunk GTA or if Crackdown mixed with GTAV,” replied user Kaiserhawk, “It looks cool.”

If you're also excited to get your hands on it, then great news-- because you won't have long to wait.

MindsEye is set to release on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X in the summer this year… suspiciously close to the reported release date of Grand Theft Auto VI.

Hey, a little competition is always a good thing, right? Good luck tussling in the sales charts with the future best-selling game of all time though.

Now, if only they’d release a trailer for their other project, EVERYWHERE, too, because a mix between GTA and The Sims sounds way more up my alley…
