GTA 6 players warned of major mistake that could ruin their launch day experience

Industry experts have warned gamers who want to play Grand Theft Auto VI that they could be missing out on an optimal experience.

Gamers will be able to preload the new Grand Theft Auto game from November 10 after Rockstar pushed it back two days, meaning fans can download the file a full week in advance of the game launching on November 10.

In preparation for the game, fans are being warned their experience of the biggest game launch this year could turn into a nightmare if Internet Service Providers intentionally slow down your connection.

Some internet providers have policies in place to reduce internet speed for activities such as gaming, while others could throttle connection as part of their ‘fair use policy’. For gamers it could mean lag and slow character response times, which can be critical in PvP games.

The solution to avoid opening day woes is to use a VPN, according to experts at Proton. VPN encrypts your traffic so your ISP cannot see what you are doing, which can restore normal speeds.

Proton says its VPN service offers unlimited bandwidth and no throttling by connecting gamers to one of 20,798 high-speed servers in 149 countries. Using Proton also prevents gamers suffering from DDoS attacks, which can be used to target players of competitive online gaming to disrupt gameplay.

If your ISP takes a poorly optimised, winding path to a game server, connecting to a VPN server that has a more direct, cleaner route can occasionally stabilise or lower your ping.

You can use a VPN to play on foreign servers and join lobbies with friends in different countries, although gamers should check the terms of the game before doing this.

Proton has launched its Black Friday sale with the cheapest ever subscription for its VPN. There is also a free option here.

VPNs can also be used to bypass local restrictions on apps and content by moving your virtual location to another region where the content is not restricted. It can be used on devices such as Firesticks, consoles and mobile phones as well as gaming PCs. You can get a VPN here.
