Grand Theft Auto fans are currently torn over the name for GTA 6’s online mode.
It’s fair to say that while GTA 5 was a mega hit, a large amount of that didn’t come down to its story mode—but its online component.
Yeah, we all liked wreaking havoc across Los Santos with Michael, Trevor, and Franklin. They’re an iconic part of the entire GTA 5 package.

But when GTA Online comes with the premise of you being able to create your own character, drive anywhere, and do almost anything in your criminal enterprises, it’s no wonder that the online component became as popular as it did.
Even though Rockstar Games has been mainly promoting the GTA 6 story mode so far, we know it’s going to have an online mode that will evolve all the ideas of GTA Online, and then some.
But the question remains what that online mode will be called.
Calling it GTA Online again might be confusing to fans, unless there was some kind of cross-integration between both games.

“Idk but ‘GTA Online 2’ sounds horrible,” writes one fan on the GTA 6 Reddit page.
“It’s an awful problem for Googling anything,” wrote another comment, responding to why it couldn’t just be called GTA Online again. “It's already a pretty big issue of continuity with just how much stuff is different between GTA V and GTA O. I've been pondering this issue myself for a while.”
Other fans pitch titles like GTA 6 Online, Vice City Online, and even GTA Online: Leonida.
Either way, we’ll find out what GTA 6’s online mode will be called as we get closer to launch.

If the releases of GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 are anything to go by, the online mode should launch separately at a later date, weeks or even months after the single-player release.
