Rockstar Games’ much-anticipated title Grand Theft Auto VI might not come out in 2025, according to an industry veteran… and fans are not taking that news well.

Jason Schreier, a reporter who works for Bloomberg and one of the most well-respected video game journalists in recent memory, recently spoke with Tim Gettys on the Kinda Funny Games podcast about Grand Theft Auto VI’s potential release date.

Gettys asked Schreier about Rockstar Games’ targeted 2025 release date for the game, and Schreier had this to say.

“I would be shocked if it actually made it next year,” Schreier responded.

“I think it will probably slip again because Rockstar games always slip... But as of right now, Take-Two is saying they’re still on track. Let’s see if that’s the case in a few months.”

Now, Schreier isn’t stating that GTA VI will definitely miss its projected release window. He’s not saying that he’s heard some insider scoop, he’s just stating his opinion based on Rockstar Games’ history of delays.

Take a look at the game's trailer below.

And yet, just as Schreier predicted on the podcast, this little quote has sent the GTA community into overdrive.

Over on the r/GTA6 subreddit, one user posted a thread titled, “Jason Schreier is wrong about GTA VI being delayed” - and the comments are what you would expect from a thread with that title.

“His primary reasoning hinges on Rockstar’s history of delays,” stated user Consistent-Ad-7455. “However, this argument overlooks several critical factors that make the situation surrounding GTA VI different.”

“Unlike Red Dead Redemption 2, which faced multiple external delays, GTA VI has been kept internally until the developers reached a confident stage of progress. Couple this with Take-Two’s commitment to a 2025 release in its financial projections, tells me that Rockstar has reached a level of confidence not previously seen during RDR2's development.”

Jeez, Schreier must be feeling like a God right now. This dude could say he saw a screenshot of a speck of dust in Grand Theft Auto VI and there’d probably be a Reddit thread about it 30 seconds later.

Ultimately, Schreier is just making an informed guess here. Nothing is concrete, and he stated that himself in the podcast. It’s not time to go DEFCON 1 until Rockstar announces anything themselves, guys.
