To say that GTA V is a massive game would be an understatement in terms of in-game scale and commercial success leaving fans always wanting more, but this shelved project will leave fans heartbroken.

When Grand Theft Auto V was originally released in 2013 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, it not only pushed those consoles to the limits but also became one of the greatest video games of all time garnering scores as high as 97 on Metacritic across all available platforms which later included PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

“When a young street hustler, a retired bank robber and a terrifying psychopath find themselves entangled with some of the most frightening and deranged elements of the criminal underworld, the U.S. government and the entertainment industry, they must pull off a series of dangerous heists to survive in a ruthless city in which they can trust nobody, least of all each other,” reads the synopsis of GTA V.

Despite Grand Theft Auto VI being scheduled to be released in 2025, there’s still a lot of interest in GTA V and a behind-the-scenes documentary would provide fans an in-depth look into how this game became the goliath that it is today. Sadly, this GTA V documentary was made but then shelved by Rockstar Games before it even got to see the light of day.

As reported by RockstarIntel.com (via GameRollGTA on Twitter) during a Q&A with the three protagonists/antagonists of GTA V, namely Steven Ogg (Trevor Phillips), Ned Luke (Michael De Santa) and Shawn Fonteno (Franklin Clinton), they revealed that Rockstar Games were filming a documentary during production of GTA V, but ultimately, did nothing with it.

In a recent interview, Steven Ogg and Ned Luke revealed that throughout their time working on GTA, Rockstar had actually planned to create a “Making of GTA 5” documentary that would have followed the development of the game.

As a lifelong fan of the Grand Theft Auto series and behind-the-scenes documentaries, this is a damn shame as I’d love to have seen it and I’m sure legions of fans will feel the same. “I imagine there were so many cool moments that would have been awesome to see,” said GameRollGTA.

“This would have been absolutely awesome. Well, seeing that they had the cameras rolling according to Ned Luke behind the scenes they would definitely still have the footage, maybe one day but perhaps for GTA VI?” said a hopeful project_vice.

As you can imagine, much of the Twitter thread shared the same level of disappointment knowing that this GTA V documentary exists but we’ll never get to see it. As for what we do know, GTA VI will be released in 2025 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
