Choose Your Own Elder Scrolls Adventure On Twitter Right Now, Try Not To Die

If at first you don’t succeed, die, die again.

Over on Twitter, Bethesda has set up a playable choose your own adventure in the world of The Elder Scrolls, and it's very, very, very punishing.

I've tried it a number of times, and I've survived once. No, I won't tell you how. That would defeat the whole purpose of the prize draw, where Bethesda is giving away 20 digital content packs for The Elder Scrolls Online players in Australia and New Zealand. The adventure itself always begins in Markarth, to celebrate the launch of the Markarth DLC Game Pack which ties together the Dark Heart of Skyrim storyline. It also introduces a new solo arena in The Reach, and Lost Treasure of Skyrim is a new event offering cosmetics, a pet, a house, and new houseguests.

Very nice. "Before you stands Markarth, the City of Stone, with its bustling streets dotted by scenic waterfalls. You're looking for adventure, which is never far away in the Reach," reads the beginning of the adventure. Then, the player has choices in the replies of that tweet, which will send them to the next step in the journey. It's a lot of text and it's a miracle that it works all the way through without breaking. Twitter is a mercurial tool, to be sure.

Though it is tough to survive in Tamriel, it's not as bad as the choose your own adventure game that Capcom released ahead of the release of Resident Evil 3. Only 13 people actually completed the game in one piece, which is astounding. Then again, it is Resident Evil, and even the savviest of horror savants were tripped up by traps, attacked by dogs, grabbed by Lickers, bitten by zombies, etcetera. That's what I'm telling myself, at least.

Regarding the future of The Elder Scrolls, it may well be available on Xbox and PC before it rolls out on PlayStation. "We will want Bethesda content to show up the best on our platforms. Yes. That's not a point about being exclusive," said Xbox CFO Tim Stuart. "But if you think about something like Game Pass, if it shows up best in Game Pass, that's what we want to see." In a mega move, Bethesda and other ZeniMax companies were acquired by Microsoft earlier this year, but games that were announced for PS5 like Deathloop and GhostWire Tokyo will honour their pre-existing agreements.
