Call Of Duty: Warzone will bid dasvidaniya to its one and only map, claims this leaker, following a mega event that ends the world of Verdansk for good.

Rumours that the apocalypse was on its way to Warzone have been rumbling for some time... actually, it was one of the most popular theories for the game when it launched in March 2020. With its anniversary rapidly approaching, players are expecting Activision and Treyarch to pull out all of the stops in celebration. Recently, leaker TheGamingRevolution claimed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Season 7 will start on March 11th and the beginning of the new season will be marked by a very special event in Warzone. Combine these details with the datamined dialogue files from the battle royale, talking about a zombie invasion of Verdansk and a nuke to finish the job, then the end of the world is pretty plausible.

These lines, uncovered through the efforts of ZestyCODLeaks, point towards a new mode titled "Plague." Near the knuckle, isn't it? Anyway, players will work together to save Verdansk from the shambling hordes of the undead, with the announcer stating "Don't turn into a zombie! For Verdansk!" and "We can't lose Verdansk, fight those damn zombies!" However, it appears that players will be able to fail the mode if they can't control the outbreak. Warzone players will be told "this is the end," "Verdansk is overrun, take it back," and "extraction failed, nuke inbound for Verdansk" if this occurs. Ultimately, the narrative may be that the zombies do take over the world and the nuke is the only way to be certain that the threat is eliminated. Tom Henderson, a noted Call of Duty and Battlefield leaker, seems to suggest this in two Twitter posts.

"The current plan for Warzone is that Verdansk will never return," they said. "There's no separate playlist, map voting, or anything like that. Warzone is Warzone and Warzone is 1 map. Warzone will continue to change its map as the story progresses." This is unlike the style of Apex Legends, which rotates a set of three maps and adds Town Takeovers in each season. If you were fond of Verdansk, or perhaps the prospect of needing to relearn an entire area's geography fills you with dread, Henderson has a silver lining for you.

"When I heard this, I immediately thought that a time machine or portal could be added to the story to have us return to Verdansk in a year or two... But this is just my speculation," they continued. With the introduction of the Zombies mode into the battle royale, it's not out of the question to see some wacky timeline wrangling to return to the place that started it all. We'll keep you in the loop when we receive new developments.
