'Valheim' Isn’t Coming To Mac Because The Devs Don't Own One

Apple's Mac series of computers can be great, it's true. They look sleek, they're a fantastic way to fit into a nice coffee shop, and they're no doubt powerful beasts for a multitude of uses and software but - and it's a big but - they're pretty bad for gaming. If you've never looked into just how many games work on Macs compared to PCs, you'll get a shock at how many titles never make it to Apple products. And right now, Valheim is one such title that is stuck on PC.

According to TheGamer, the reason that hit new Viking survival simulator Valheim isn't on its way to Apple devices is because the dev team doesn't own a Mac to develop a Mac-friendly version. Well, that sucks for Apple fans huh? But, dry your tears, because if later down the line the team have the resources to make a port, they'd happily make one it seems.

The original report comes from a Reddit post that shows an email from Iron Gate, the team behind Valheim. It looks like someone enquired about getting a Mac version of the game, and the response to the fan reveals that Iron Gate just don't have the time or the right computer to try to make one right now.

The text reads, "We do not currently support Mac because we don't have a Mac computer at the office. Adding Mac support and debugging and testing would take a lot of development hours that we don't have atm. In the future, it might be possible to add Mac compatibility."

So it's good and bad news for Apple fans, then. No Mac release is planned right now, but bear in mind that the game is still technically in Steam's Early Access. That means it's not finished yet and more changes are going to be on the way. Eventually one of the improvements might allow more gamers to get their hands on the Viking sim.
