For most of us, Valheim is a game in which we desperately forge alliances and then hold on for dear life as we try to weather all the monsters the game's viking world can throw at us. But the game has been out in Early Access for a few weeks now, and some of the more experienced players are starting to show us what's possible when you're not getting battered by The Elder constantly.
There are plenty of seriously impressive settlement builds out there already, and I daresay there are far more mind-blowing creations to come as the game and its players evolve together. For now, the best creation we've seen by far is a bang-on replica of Sauron's tower from The Lord Of The Rings.
Modder Rynborg uploaded the build to Nexus Mods (via PCGamesN), along with a video that gives a tour of the fearsome creation. The building's jagged exterior has been cobbled together with stone, stretching high into the sky. As an added touch, the builder has recreated Sauron's all-seeing eye by using carefully placed torches and fireplaces. No doubt he'll use it to roam the land looking for pesky Hobbits.
You might be wondering what all the fuss is about if you haven't played Valheim yet. Steam describes it as a procedurally generated open-world survival game that asks players (alone or in co-op) to explore, build, and take down powerful bosses. It's a ton of fun, and definitely a recommended play from us here at GAMINGbible.
"Your trials begin at the disarmingly peaceful centre of Valheim, but the gods reward the brave and glory awaits," reads the game's Steam description. "Venture forth through imposing forests and snow-capped mountains, explore and harvest more valuable materials to craft deadlier weapons, sturdier armor, viking strongholds and outposts. Build a mighty longship and sail the great oceans in search of exotic lands ... but be wary of sailing too far..."
Thrillingly, it seems like Valheim is just getting started, so I look forward to seeing plenty more epic builds like this one. Just last week the indie hit smashed yet another Steam record, with over half a million concurrent players. This is a feat that has been managed by very few games, placing Valheim squarely in the company of hits like CS:GO and DOTA 2.
