'Resident Evil 8: Village' Announced In Terrifying Trailer

Looking pretty damn spooky.

Buy yourselves a clean pair of trousers, because it looks like Resident Evil is back. During the PlayStation Future Of Gaming event, Capcom finally announced the long-rumoured Resident Evil VIII: Village, and it looks to be every bit as terrifying as you'd want a new entry in the iconic survival horror franchise to be.

It looks like a lot of the reports on the new game that surfaced earlier this year were pretty much bang on the money. The new game will pick up after the events of Resident Evil 7, and see the return of Ethan and Chris Redfield. It'll also be another first-person adventure, so sorry to any purists that were hoping the Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 remakes meant third-person was back for good.

The trailer, which you can see below, also seems to confirm many of the eldritch horrors that were rumoured to appear in the game. I'd previously thought the likes of ghosts and werewolves showing up in Resident Evil seemed a bit out there... but here we are. The good news is that classic zombies also seem to be back in the mix, so... something horrifying for the whole family, I guess.

"It is first-person," a well-known leaker known as AestheticGamer said of the game just months ago. "Many purists are going to hate it because it's taking some serious departures in the story/enemies and the like. Hallucinations, Occultism, insanity and not being able to trust others are huge thematics of the game."

Resident Evil VIII: Village has a release date of 2021, and will presumably be coming to Xbox Series X and PC as well as PlayStation 5. As someone who genuinely enjoyed the first-person horror of Resident Evil 7, I'm happy to see Capcom have another stab at it. I also really dig the occult vibe the new game has going on - even if I was a little disappointed that it didn't turn out to be a new Silent Hill. Ah well.

Make no mistake, I'm fully ready to embrace the pants wetting terror of a next-gen Resident Evil game.
