'Neopets' Is Gearing Up For A Mobile Gaming Revival

Welcome to the 21st century.

Remember Neopets? I don't, because for some reason it passed me by - but pretty much everyone else my age had a burning obsession with them. For those of you like me, Neopets was (and still is, I guess) a website where you could go and look after your very own virtual pets.

There was a little bit more to it than that I suppose, but the main thrust was looking after pets with some kind of social connectivity aspect baked into it. Whatever developer JumpStart did, it worked, because Neopets was a smash hit. It first launched way back in 1999, most likely in an attempt to get in the whole Pokémon/Tamagotchi market. Neopets went on to dominate an entire generation (in a good way), and the site still has an impressive 1.5 million users around the world to this day.

That's why I'm so surprised to learn that Neopets has only just decided to join us here in the modern day. Somewhat unbelievably, the site has only had a desktop-friendly version for the past few decades. The good news is that this is finally changing. Neopets has launched a new mobile site so that players can at last look after their virtual critters from their phones.

The new site boasts all the same features as the desktop version, including puzzles, daily games and activities, a thriving (I assume) community, and more. Is it the Neopets you remember? I have no idea. As I said, I can't remember it - but I sincerely hope it's everything you want it to be.

If you're interested in blasting yourself in the face with a ray of nostalgia, the mobile site is open for beta testing right now. All you have to do is sign up on the home page. After that, simply bookmark the page on your mobile device, and you'll be able to check on your virtual friends wherever you are. On the train, at work, on the loo - wherever.

Will you be checking out the new and improved Neopets? Maybe you could try logging in to check on your old friends, if you can remember your password? Hell, we've got nothing else to do in lockdown, I might well make an account and see what all the fuss was about.
