Nathan Fillion has responded to not being cast as Nathan Drake in Sony's upcoming Uncharted movie, despite being the top-pick of almost every fan around the world.
After several years of languishing in development hell, Uncharted is finally set to hit the big screen on February 9, 2022 with Spider-Man actor Tom Holland in the lead role. While not casting Fillion as Drake still smacks of missed opportunity to many of us, I've no doubt Holland will still kill it. Fortunately, that's a sentiment Fillion shares.
GAMINGbible recently sat down with Fillion ahead of the release of The Suicide Squad to ask if he had any regrets about not being cast as Nathan Drake. Take a look at what he had to say below:
"'My only regret is that we had to wait so very, very long for someone to do something so we could actually see some Uncharted stuff," Fillion explained. "Other than that, I think all my boxes have been checked. I'm pretty excited to see what they do with that. I love movies and those guys have never let us down; Tom Holland, come on, Mark Wahlberg. We're gonna have a great time."
As great as it is to see that Fillion is more than okay with Holland taking on the role of a younger Drake, it's no secret that the former Firefly star was at the top of almost every list when Sony first announced its plans to bring Uncharted to the big screen way back in 2016.
Fillion has proven time and time again that he possesses the requisite charm, swagger, and vulnerability that Nolan North brought to the part in the games. Hell, if If you need proof, you can actually see him as Nathan Drake in an incredible fan movie on YouTube. Still, if that's the closest he ever gets to the role, at least we got to see it become a reality - even if it wasn't on the big-screen or in an official capacity.
You can catch Nathan Fillion as The Detachable Kid in DC's The Suicide Squad, in cinemas this Friday, July 30.
