‘Medal Of Honor: Above And Beyond’ Gets New Trailer, More Details Revealed

A brand-new trailer has been revealed for Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond, the series' first entry since 2012's Medal of Honor: Warfighter. The game's director at developers Respawn Entertainment, Peter Hirschmann, has also revealed new details about the game as part of Gamescom Opening Night.

Of Above and Beyond, Hirschmann told Opening Night host Geoff Keighley: "Going back to the series' roots was all about putting the player in the boots of a soldier fighting in World War II. And with VR we're able to do that in almost a literal way. It's definitely the most immersive combat experience I've ever been able to work on."

Yep, you heard that right. ICYMI with earlier reveals, Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond is a VR game, destined for Oculus Rift later in 2020. Have a peek at the new story trailer, why don't you.

Hirschmann continued, talking about the story in the game. The player is a new recruit in the Office of Strategic Services, who these days are known as the CIA. He says: "During World War II, they sent operatives all over Europe, in deep cover behind enemy lines, and that allows us to tell a story where you get to go to these places and participate in events that really helped shape the outcome of the war."

The game's script is longer than some movies, apparently, and sticks to a three-act structure covering the French Resistance, D-Day and the Nazis' Secret Weapon Program - and it's all shot from the player's VR perspective, with no cutscenes. Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond isn't just a single-player game, though. It'll ship with what Hirschmann calls "unique multiplayer features" - so that'll be fun for Oculus owners and their Oculus-owning pals.

Up for it? Bummed that it's VR only? Yeah, that sure is a choice. Again, Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond is coming out later in 2020, exclusively for Oculus Rift (at least initially), and is published by EA. Want to know more? Check out our own interview with Hirschmann, here.
