A Peaceful Run Of 'Grand Theft Auto 5' Will Still Have You Murder 726 People

Ah, the pacifist run. Sometimes people will attempt runs of games where you don't kill a single soul. Though it can be difficult, murder can sometimes be avoided. Undertale comes to mind as a title where being kind to NPCs makes your experience of the game arguably better if you're just not a killer - but in other games like Grand Theft Auto 5 that is definitely not the case.

As it turns out, if you're against killing NPCs, you probably shouldn't play the story portion of Grand Theft Auto 5 because you have to kill a lot of them to finish the game. Over 700 of them actually, according to Kotaku and Sex-Positive Gamer. A new video by the content creator shows every single death you must cause to complete the game and yeah, it's a lot of death.

No one ever said that GTA 5 was a particularly peaceful game - it's actually known as the opposite, and regularly brought up in political conversations about everyday violence despite no link between gaming and violence being found. But honestly, 726 deaths still seems higher than I would have guessed, though we're shocked that Trevor wasn't the most deadly on the run.

Despite the fact that Trevor is the most violent out of the three protagonists you can play as in GTA 5, he's not the one with the highest kill count, it's actually Franklin who has the most murders to his name. Michael De Santa kills 172 people, Franklin Clinton kills 295 people, and Trevor Philips has 258 kills. You might notice that that only equals 725 - and that's because one murder is committed by all three, as they push Devin Weston off of a cliff. What a good friendship exercise, huh?

Sex-Positive Gamer actually seemed surprised at the number of kills, and how low the number was. Considering Max Payne kills 1,216 alone in his third game and Gordon Freeman kills 751 individuals in Half-Life 2 it's funny that Grand Theft Auto 5 has more of a violent reputation than either of these games, with less scripted death.

Go check out the full video from Sex-Positive Gamer as in the description, there's a lot of other detail on the project and the context to the route they took.
