GAME Will Take Your Unwanted Christmas Socks For Extra Store Credit

Sock it to 'em.

Don't shoot me for saying this, but I honestly think socks get a bad rap at Christmas. Somehow, they've developed a reputation as the worst possible present to receive during the festive period. Rubbish, I say. I love getting a fresh pair of socks at Christmas. I mean, socks are something we all objectively need, and I'll be damned if I'm gonna go to the store myself and buy a new pair like some kind of chump.

Socks are a dull Christmas present, yes, but they're functional, and I'll use them every day. Well, not every day. I obviously wash them. Leave socks alone, is what I'm trying to say. Unfortunately, I very much appear to be in the minority with this opinion, as socks continue to be one of the most under-loved presents in the UK.

The good news is that UK video game retailer GAME has come up with quite an elegant solution for all you sock haters out there. As announced in a press release today, GAME has launched its first ever New Year Sock Swap as it lets the mask slip for the first time and reveals its lowkey foot fetish. That's a joke, to be clear. The foot fetish bit. The rest is true.

GAME

"Following the Christmas period, unwanted socks get thrown to the back of the drawer and forgotten, or worse still - they go straight in the bin," GAME wrote in a press release. "Over 25% of Brits class socks as their least-desired Christmas present, with a combined £5bn a year wasted on unwanted presents, whilst the number one requested item for the UK's homeless shelter is..... socks!"

It seems like GAME has hit on a real win-win situation here. In an effort to kick off 2020 with some much-needed positivity, and to ensure that those who actually need socks can get them, GAME is offering a little extra incentive for those who bring their unwanted socks in to stores.

Specifically, an extra £2 store credit will be given for any games you trade in if you also bring in a pair of socks. New or used, to be clear. I'd maybe wash those used socks as a courtesy first though, yeah? Oh, and any socks you bring in will net you an extra £15 for any tablets, phones, or consoles you take in. Not too shabby.

Every pair of socks handed in will then be donated to various homeless charities across the country, so if you were thinking of trading in some old games to make some space in 2020, don't forget to pack some socks.

For more information you can head to the GAME website. I just hope all of the staff have been told about this sock-based initiative, or there are gonna be some very confused workers in the next few weeks.
