EA has dropped a handful of new teasers for Star Wars: Squadrons ahead of its official reveal later today. In case you missed it, the publisher announced its next Star Wars game last week, following an early (unintentional) appearance on the official Xbox website.

It's been rumoured that Squadrons is in fact the previously leaked game codenamed Star Wars: Project Maverick, and that it'll be "an aerial/space combat game about piloting ships in head-to-head battles". That certainly lines up with what we're seeing from the new teaser images, which show Rebel and Imperial pilots boarding their respective TIE fighters and X-wings. The tagline of "pilots wanted" is also something of a giveaway, to be honest.

Anyway, take a look at the new teasers to get yourself in the zone. The danger zone.

As someone who maintains that Star Wars: Rogue Squadron II is one of the best video games of all time, I'm fully here for a new Star Wars game that puts us back in the cockpit. It's been too long since we've had a title dedicated to the series' iconic aerial battles. Battlefront II made a decent stab of ship-to-ship combat, but I'm ultimately after something a little more fulfilling and authentic. Or as authentic as it can be, given it's about flying around in space shooting lasers at people.

According to rumours, Squadrons will be arriving on PC and consoles later this year, and will feature a single-player campaign and bevy of multiplayer modes. With that said, it sounds like the main meat of the experience will be multiplayer, as gamers battle it out across a number of popular locations in well-known ships from the history of the franchise. Please let me blow up the Death Star.

It's been suggested development on Maverick has been smaller in scale than Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Battlefront II, so maybe don't expect a game quite as large as either of those. The full reveal for Star Wars: Squadrons is scheduled for 4pm BST today (June 15th), so I guess we won't have long until we see what it looks like in action.
