The Elder Scrolls 6 Set For Major Engine Shake-Up, Starfield 2.0 Coming as Test

Very different, whenever we get to play it

The release of The Elder Scrolls 6 is one of the most highly anticipated in all of gaming, but details on what exactly the game is going to be like are pretty thin on the ground, though rumours do continue to swirl.

Fans have filled some of the void with their educated guesses about the setting and gameplay features, including a pretty compelling theory that we could be headed to Hammerfell and High Rock.

Equally, there have been occasional tidbits of potential information from sources close to developments at Bethesda, though it has generally been a pretty tight ship in the grand scheme of things.

Now, a new potential avenue has been revealed that will have wide reaching consequences for the final product, whenever we do finally get our hands on it.

Over on YouTube, on the Xbox Two Podcast, journalist Jez Corden shared details on rumours that the major changes coming to Starfield are being used as a testbed for the development of The Elder Scrolls VI and Fallout 5.

A big part of that is the addition of Unreal Engine-style tools to the traditional Creation Engine used in Bethesda's massive RPG projects.

Though these rumours should be taken with a pinch of salt at this moment in time, Corden was keen to stress that this absolutely wasn't a full move across to UE5, rather using the engine as inspiration for iteration on their own framework.

In a Reddit post sharing the updates, fans were very positive about the prospect of some Unreal Engine's more compelling features being incorporated into development.

"Anvil is Unrealified. That made Shadows one of the best looking and most tech advanced games this year and it runs amazing on console." one said.

"It means it uses tech like Unreal for modernisation, not that it's running like Unreal.

A second wrote: "This sounds like what they did for the oblivion remaster, creation engine for the physics and game logic and unreal rendering pipeline.

"If this makes the creation engine more accessible, so we can get Fallout 5 before 2040 I'm all for it."

"The Coalition is the best in the industry with Unreal Engine. Wonder how it would effect TESVI if they help out," a third said.

Whatever Bethesda is cooking up, we hope we get our hands on either Fallout 5 or Elder Scrolls VI before too long,
