Driver tutorial level called the worst training mission of all time

Fans of Driver are in agreement that the tutorial level is one of the worst training missions of all time.

It’s a universally known fact that we just simply cannot enjoy every single game. Every now and then you’re going to come up against something you don’t like. It might be a whole game - it could just be a single level.

For me, I’m a massive fan of the Uncharted series and while Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune fills me with warm feelings of nostalgia, it also features one of the clunkiest levels I have ever encountered. Yes, I’m talking about the jet ski. I despise that jet ski with every portion of my being. Okay, maybe that’s a tad dramatic but it’s so hard to wield. It’s a stain on an otherwise delightful game - you get my gist. Well many players feel that way about the opening tutorial to 1999 classic Driver.

Someone modded PS1 Hagrid into Hogwarts Legacy.

The discussion was started by Reddit user Creepy_Bug_3300 who said, “I doubt there’s a worse tutorial than this,” including a screenshot of Driver. At the time of writing, it’s nearing 900 upvotes. The user added, “I was five years old, and did not speak a word in English. I thought this parking lot was the whole game. Is there any tutorial worse than this?”

A surprising number of people agree that Driver was hard to get to grips with. BaderBuallay wrote, “Don’t feel bad OP, I was 12 and lost my ability to speak English while playing the tutorial… Could only express myself with grunts and half words. Which is just as well because I only had one emotion to express, frustration.”

Tzayad added, “I can't quite remember how long it took me to get through it, but it feels like it was days. Thought it was like broken or something. But damn. When you finally get it, and the driving just clicks, it's so satisfying. Such a great old game.” Perfectly said. I must admit I don’t have fond memories of the tutorial and on the whole, Driver isn’t amongst my all-time greats, but if you do get past the opening tutorial, you’re in for a treat.
