EA and BioWare have released a new free download featuring one of the best features of Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

One of the biggest timesinks when it comes to RPGs is the character creator. You can spend hours adjusting every nook and cranny of your character’s face, making sure their eyes look just right, their nose protrudes at the right angle, and their hair fits their personality.

We saw massively deep character creators with games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Baldur’s Gate 3, but another impressive example came with Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

Check out the trailer for Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

At launch, players and content creators were spending hours with the character creator, and many clips went viral showcasing the most bizarre creations.

Clearly, that feature in itself had a bit of a viral moment. So, it’s a clever choice by EA and BioWare to release the character creator as a standalone demo alongside Patch 4 for the game.

Available now on Windows PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, the Dragon Age: The Veilguard Character Creator will let you create your own Rook free of charge.

I haven’t got round to playing The Veilguard just yet (thanks, ever-expanding backlog), but seriously, I spent a good hour on this baby.

I first made a Rook that looked like me, which I then realised I hated. So, afterwards I tried to make Shrek. As is tradition.

Anyway, having now spent some time with this demo, I can see why critics and players were praising the tech behind The Veilguard’s character animations and graphics.

The best thing about this release is that should you decide to pick up the game further down the line, you’ll be able to transfer your character and start playing as them.

This isn’t all that’s arrived with the latest Veilguard update.

Patch 4 also includes new content in the form of Hawke’s iconic outfit and body paint from Dragon Age 2. It also has new complexions for the Qunari lineage.

In addition to that, new quality-of-life features and bug fixes are also present in the new patch.

Check out the full patch notes.
