Community fans everywhere are rejoicing because actor Donald Glover has confirmed that he will indeed star in the upcoming movie, reprising his role as Troy Barnes.

The Community movie was officially greenlit by Peacock back in September 2022. The hugely successful show drew to a close in 2015 and ever since, fans have been clamouring for a reunion. Seeing as the finale episode ended on a title card that said, “... And a movie,” it always felt like a question of when, more so than if. Still, many years passed and we thought it might never happen. When the film was announced, it was confirmed that the original cast would return but Donald Glover’s name was missing from the line-up. The actor himself has now announced that he is indeed returning.

In need of a film to watch this weekend? How about The Super Mario Bros. Movie? We spoke to star Anya Taylor Joy about her role as Princess Peach.

I suppose the reason surrounding the confusion stems from the fact that Glover departed the show in season five, but Community did go on to air a sixth and final season. Now, in an interview with GQ, Glover has confirmed that he’s signed on to appear in the reunion project. He did remain vague, saying, “The Community movie, there’s some progress on it. We’re supposed to be shooting it soon.”

He continued, “[I] haven’t seen a script. In true Dan [Harmon] fashion, [we] will probably get it on the first day but yeah, it’s supposed to be happening. I know just as much about it as you do.” I did say it was vague, but knowing that Glover will appear in the film is more than we knew one day ago so we’ll take this crumb of an update.

Back when the movie was announced, Jason Clodfelter, co-president of Sony Pictures Television Studios, said, “Community was light years ahead of its time when it premiered on NBC in 2009 and we are thrilled to once again visit the brilliant minds of Dan Harmon, Andrew Guest and this impeccable cast. We are grateful to Peacock, our partners at UTV and to all the zealous fans who have cherished this iconic show.”
