Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 officially launching with all 16 MW2 2009 maps

The classics are coming back in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3!

This year, to no surprise whatsoever, we’ll be treated to another entry in Activision’s ever-popular Call of Duty series.

Pretty much every year since its inception in 2003 a new Call of Duty game has graced our presence. The only exception to that rule so far was with Call of Duty and Call of Duty 2 between 2003 to 2005.

This year, we’re being treated to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, the completion of the reboot trilogy that began in 2019. While some have accused the series formula of getting a little stale in recent years, and whether you’re a fan of Call of Duty or not, there is little denying that each entry offers a lot of bang for your buck.

From a high-octane single-player campaign, robust traditional multiplayer modes, not to mention the addition of Zombies this year and of course the goliath free-to-play battle royale game, Warzone which benefits from plenty of seasonal content updates.

In recent months it’s been rumoured that the traditional multiplayer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III will feature all the maps of Modern Warfare 2 (2009) remastered for the modern generation. Announced alongside a gameplay reveal trailer this week for the single-player campaign, it’s now been officially confirmed that MWIII will feature remastered maps from MW2 (2009).

In celebration of the series' 20th anniversary, writes Daniel Noel of Activision on the PlayStation Blog, Modern Warfare III will feature “one of the greatest collections” of the series' multiplayer maps “ever assembled”. What’s more, MWIII will not only feature 16 remastered maps from Modern Warfare 2 (2009) but also a collection of new maps for fans to enjoy.

The remastered maps at launch from MW2 (2009) which have been modernised not only visually and aesthetically, but also benefits from new features too. Furthermore, 12 new 6v6 maps will be released over post-launch seasons. Activision has also teased a new 3v3v3 mode that will take advantage of all the maps featured in this year's release.

The remastered maps from MW2 (2009) that will be available at launch in Modern Warfare III include Afghan, Derail, Estate, Favela, Highrise, Invasion, Karachi, Quarry, Rundown, Rust, Scrapyard, Skidrow, Sub Base, Terminal, Underpass and Wasteland.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III will be released on PC, PlayStation and Xbox on 10 November 2023.
