Rockstar has accidentally revealed that they're planning to release something Bully-related, and it's all Grand Theft Auto's fault

Bully, or Canis Canem Edit as it was known in Europe, is one of those games that just keeps managing to find its way into the headlines, regardless of Rockstar Games’ refusal to develop a sequel.

Usually, this is because of something relatively baseless. Fans of the 2006 title are probably more than sick of hearing about all of the “rumours” surrounding Bully at this point, which is understandable considering literally nothing has come of any of them in the past 18 years.

Today though… I dunno, man. I don’t want to fill you poor folks with any more misplaced Bully-related copium, but I might actually have some good, genuine news for you.

Shout out to Ed Smith over at PCGamesN for originally covering this story!

As spotted by Twitter user @TezFunz2, Rockstar Games have just started messing around with the Steam version of Bully “for the first time in a decade”.

As to why, the prevailing theory is that it (of course) might have something to do with Grand Theft Auto.

The GTA+ subscription service primarily gives you access to a bunch of exclusive perks in Grand Theft Auto 5, but it does also come with one extra, major benefit.

If you have an active GTA+ subscription, you also gain access to a bunch of other Rockstar titles at no extra cost, such as Red Dead Redemption, L.A. Noire, and Bully.

The thing is, the subscription service isn’t actually available on PC. Even if you pay for it on a PlayStation console, for example, you wouldn’t be able to claim these titles on Steam.

However, there’s been a lot of talk lately about GTA+ finally coming to PC, which is why people think Bully’s update on Steam may be related (as the PC port of the game is apparently in a bit of a rough state).

Makes sense. If you want people to pay for your subscription service, you better make sure the free games they get from it actually work.

This could also be part of the reason that Rockstar Games finally decided to fix Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition in a recent patch. Maybe it even had something to do with them finally porting Red Dead Redemption to PC.

Of course, we won’t actually find out what Rockstar is up to until this Bully update actually goes live.

It could be some bug fixes. It could be some graphical upgrades. Either way, it’s gotta be something, so keep an eye out for any Bully-related headlines in the near future.
