Internet-favourite Brendan Fraser is in the midst of a major press tour for his upcoming film The Whale, and it’s garnering a ton of awards’ buzz. Already, Fraser has been reduced to tears by two incredible standing ovations and it’s what the guy deserves.

The press tour has also allowed Fraser to reflect on some of his most iconic roles. He recently revealed how a George Of The Jungle stunt ended up becoming an emergency news broadcast, plus revealed that he’d be up for a The Mummy reboot. Speaking of The Mummy, Fraser has revealed how he almost died during the filming of one scene.

Take a look at this wholesome moment between Brendan and a fan during a Q&A.

As reported by ScreenRant, much of The Mummy was filmed in the Sahara desert in Morocco. It seems pretty obvious to state that the Sahara reaches rather toasty temperatures so cast and crew were supplied with a medical concoction every two hours to prevent dehydration. Plenty of people were also reportedly treated for various animal bites and stings.

During a scene in which Fraser’s character Rick O’Connell is temporarily hanged before being saved by Evelyn, Fraser actually ended up choking during filming. A stuntman was used for wide shots but Fraser was eventually needed in the noose for the close-up. When it came to filming the second take, director Stephen Sommer requested that the rope have a little more tension which inadvertently suffocated Fraser.

The actor wanted to “sell” his performance so went with it. It’s only when he passed out and regained consciousness that he realised just how dangerous the stunt had been. What a close call.
