If you’re itching for a new film to watch, you may want to check out The Creator - an epic new sci-fi from Rogue One director Gareth Edwards that’s set to release on 29 September. Edwards didn’t simply direct the film. He also produced it, and co-wrote the script with Chris Weitz.

Sci-fi fans have been expecting big things from the film which is no surprise really. Edwards’ back catalogue is pretty impressive, seeing as he directed both 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (a film which many consider to be the best in the franchise) and 2014’s Godzilla. This is someone who knows how to deal with a story told on an epic scale. The auteur’s latest effort, The Creator, stars John David Washington, Gemma Chan, Ken Watanabe, Sturgill Simpson, and Allison Janney. Here at GAMINGbible, we had the opportunity to sit down to chat with Edwards about the making of the film, touching on the topic of a couple of sneaky Rogue One Easter eggs.

Take a look at our Gareth Edwards interview below.

GAMINGbible’s very own Tom Ryan-Smith had the opportunity to see the film, praising the “amazing cinematography, visual effects, and surprising amount of heart.” He later told Edwards that he spotted a reference hidden within it to Rogue One location Scarif. Edwards nodded, replying, “By the way, I didn’t actually put Scarif in there. The team doing the visual effects put it on there as a giggly little joke when they presented it - and then I was like, oh, you can leave it in. That’s cool.”

He went on to tease that there’s one further Easter egg hidden in the film. “There is another Easter egg in there to do with Rogue One,” he said. “No one’s spotted it yet.” I accept that as a challenge.

The Creator is set “amidst a future war between the human race and the forces of artificial intelligence,” reads the synopsis. “Joshua, a hardened ex-special forces agent grieving the disappearance of his wife, is recruited to hunt down and kill the Creator, the elusive architect of advanced AI who has developed a mysterious weapon with the power to end the war… and mankind itself.” It really is a must-see.

The Creator is set to release on 29 September.
