As you may have heard earlier this week, it's looking increasingly likely that the free PlayStation 5 game for PlayStation Plus subscribers is going to be a new-gen remaster of A Plague Tale: Innocence.
A little recap in case you missed the news: Earlier this week ResetEra user deluxera made a bunch of pre-E3 claims about Asobo Studio's A Plague Tale: Innocence that turned out to be correct. They wrote that a sequel, called A Plague Tale: Requiem would be announced during Microsoft's E3 2021 showcase. They also said that a next-gen remaster of the original game was being released, and that it will be included in July's PlayStation Plus lineup exclusively for PlayStation 5 users.

While Sony likely won't confirm the July PlayStation Plus games until the end of the month, A Plague Tale: Innocence is a big win for subscribers. Why? The simple fact is y'all slept on the game when it first launched in 2019. It's a truly fantastic game that deserves more attention, and I guarantee that if you give it your time, you'll come away impressed.

A Plague Tale: Innocence is kind of like The Last Of Us in a lot of ways, only set in 14th century France. Much like Naughty Dog's 2013 classic, it's a survival horror with stealth elements, although the focus on sneaking around and not getting caught is much greater in A Plague Tale.
The game puts us in the shoes of a young girl called Amicia de Rune who, after having her idyllic life violently ripped away from her, is left to guide her younger brother through a plague-stricken world of monsters and men, neither of which care to give our duo an inch of leeway.
To say much more about the story would be defeat the object. Much like The Last Of Us, this is an adventure that really needs to be played to be felt. The game's stealth reaches unbearable levels of tension, and as the bond between Amicia and her brother begins to grow, it gets harder and harder to drag him through the world's many horrors.
I should also point out that the game already looks stunning on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, so a new-gen remaster running on PlayStation 5 is going to be something worth seeing with your own eyes if you can. A Plague Tale: Innocence truly is one of the best games you've probably never played, and a perfect potential addition to the PlayStation Plus library.
