Konami partnering with Bloober again is great news for Silent Hill fans

I can’t wait to return to Silent Hill!

In my restless dreams, I see that town. Silent Hill. You promised you’d take me there again someday… Konami.

It’s been announced Konami is indeed re-partnering with Bloober Team to work on a new game based on an existing IP, and as a devoted Silent Hill fan since the very beginning, I’m buzzing with excitement.

The announcement of Bloober Team working with Konami once more was announced in a recent blog post. It’s not known what IP it will be, but given the success of the 2024 Silent Hill 2 remake, many fans (including myself) will be hoping that another vacation to the tormented foggy town is on the cards.

In my review of Silent Hill 2, I said: “This is about a perfect remake of Silent Hill 2 and everything I could have hoped for. Bloober Team has finally realised its potential, and its remake of Silent Hill 2 deserves its place amongst the upper echelon of modern survival horror greats.”

“Our collaboration with Konami has been incredibly fruitful, and the success of Silent Hill 2 speaks for itself. By sharing knowledge and experience, we have been able to create high-quality production together, said Bloober Team CEO, Piotr Babieno.

“Of course, we can't reveal too many details at this time, but we are confident that fans will be just as excited about our collaboration as we are. We can't wait to share something truly special with players when the time is right.”

The question is: if Bloober Team were to develop another Silent Hill remake, which entry would it be? Without giving too much away, it would make little sense to develop a Silent Hill 3 remake before revitalising the original game that was released in 1999 on the PlayStation.

Both the original Silent Hill and Silent Hill 3 have a very strong connection, and as much as I love Heather, I think many fans would prefer that the original game be remade next. I suppose Bloober could go with Silent Hill 4: The Room, a very underrated game in the series with some truly horrific creatures. Silent Hill 4 was a game that didn't get the appreciation it deserved in 2004 but over time, fans are giving it the love it deserves.

I know we had a remake - of sorts - of the original game with Silent Hill: Shattered Memories (2009) but I’ve always felt it was more of a reimagining rather than a remake. Plus, as fun as it was with some interesting concepts that would alter the game based on in-game decisions you made, many fans would have missed this obscure release that launched on the PSP, PS2 and Wii.

It felt like a strange decision for Konami to go with the Silent Hill 2 remake first rather than the original game but this might have a lot to do with the upcoming movie, Return to Silent Hill, which was announced alongside the remake in 2022 and also inspired by the second game. Not to mention that the original Silent Hill 2 is arguably the most iconic game in the series.

I admit that when it was announced Bloober Team were developing the Silent Hill 2 remake, I had concerns. After all, I think it’s fair to say that while creating some decent horror games, perhaps apart from Observer, they hadn’t blown all that much out of the water.

I was concerned that remaking Silent Hill 2 would be too much of a burden for a game that many hold so dear. In fairness, I would have had similar concerns with just about any other developer handling a project of this magnitude. Thankfully, my doubts were proven wrong with the 2024 remake. Bloober Team not only retained what made the original game so special but they even expanded on it in new ways.

Now, should Bloober Team create another remake in the series (hopefully the original Silent Hill), I not only have tons of excitement at that prospect but I am genuinely buzzing with excitement to see what the Polish studio does next, including its other upcoming survival horror game, Cronos: The New Dawn.

Bloober Team, you have me waiting in anticipation.
